Son of ace action director Veeru Devgan, Ajay was exposed to films at a very early age. Nursing the ambition of being an actor therefore was obvious. When Ajay finally grew up and made his debut, he rightfully did it with the action packed Phool Aur Kaante.

Ajay successfully wore the 'action hero' tag for a while thereafter and was known for the daredevil stunts in his films. The evolution of Ajay Devgan, the actor, began when he started to play softer characters in other genres of cinema. Films like Pyaar Toh Hona Hi Tha and Ishq presented Ajay in a different light. Ajay's potential as a romantic hero capable of delivering emotional performances was discovered. A few more films thereafter and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam was released. Ajay became hot property.

Films like Zakhm, Bhoot, Deewangee, Company and Gangajaal established and cemented Ajay's credibility. The country had discovered one of its finest actors.

Ajay continued to experiment with his versatility as an actor; Kaal, Golmaal and 2006's biggest film, Omkara went on to add more feathers to his already colourful cap.

Two National Awards, and several other prestigious felicitations later, Ajay has turned to a new challenge... film-making! His directorial debut U, Me aur Hum where he also plays the lead, opposite Kajol, is almost complete, and is set to hit the big screen soon!
